Core Strategy 2011-2028 Submission Document
The Core Strategy sets out a vision for Taunton Deane and strategic objectives, spatial strategy and policies for meeting that vision. It also reflects the strategic objectives of the 'Sustainable Community Strategy' as well as national planning policy. The Plan specifies the locations and quantity of growth to be accommodated within the Borough up to 2028 and identifies strategic site allocations, including mixed-use urban extensions.
The Plan also includes policies for the control of development across the Borough to ensure planning applications meet the vision and objectives. For example, it includes policy approaches to proposed housing development in the countryside and restrictions on the type of goods sold in out-of-centre retail stores.
The Taunton Deane Core Strategy was published for formal representations to be made over the period 8 July – 19 August 2011. It was submitted to the Secretary of State and Planning Inspectorate on the 14th November. The Inspectorate will now consider the Plan and its outstanding representations prior to holding an Examination in Public in the early part of 2012.
